Emergency First Aid at Work - EFAW

Aim of the Course:

  • To enable a candidate to act as an appointed person in an emergency situation, to take charge of the first aid arrangements, including looking after equipment and calling the emergency services when required.

The course is designed for: 

  • People who wish to gain a working knowledge of basic first aid

  • People acting as the work place first aider

  • People assisting a qualified first aider


  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in a emergency situation

  • Complete Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and choking

  • Be competent at first aid management for the unconscious casualty including seizure management

  • Be competent at managing first aid situations for wounds and bleeding

  • Be competent in the use of first aid equipment, alongside prevention of cross infection and the recording of incidents


  • Continual assessment by the course tutor

  • Pass the end of course worksheets


  • Be 16 years of age

Validity of Award:

  • 36 months
